John A Matney was born 1818 probably in Campbell Co, TN, and died by 1857 probate at Macon Co, MO. He married Elizabeth Ann Scrutchfield 1848 Macon Co, MO, daughter of Henry Anderson and Mary M (McCully) Scrutchfield. Mary was deceased by 1856. He married 2nd Indiana Brown 1856 Macon Co, MO. They had 4 children Icabinda who married John W Wisdom, James H, Isaac Noah who married 1st Mary E Sears, and 2nd Cansada Henslee, and Samuel. John owned land in Macon Co, MO. 1852 John A went to Oregon with brother James M Matney. His son Isaac was born 1853 in OR, and 1855 his son Samuel was born in the Modoc Co, CA area. Mary may have died in CA, or by the time they got back to MO? John married again October 1856 and died shortly after. His children were raised by relatives. He was a farmer.
